Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using the CantoMate mobile application ("App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you") and CantoMate ("we", "us", "our") governing your access to and use of the CantoMate application on iOS and Android.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use CantoMate. If you are under the applicable age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have parental or guardian consent to use this App.

By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet the above eligibility requirements.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Registration

You may use CantoMate as a guest (without an account), or create an account via email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

3.2 Guest Mode

If you use the App as a guest, your learning progress is saved locally on your device only. We are not responsible for any loss of guest progress caused by device failure, App uninstallation, or clearing of App data.

3.3 Account Security

You agree to notify us immediately at support@cantomate.com if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account. We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorised access to your account.

4. Licence to Use the App

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the App solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes.

CantoMate is free to download and use. Free tier users will experience:

Advertisements are served by Google AdMob. We are not responsible for the content of third-party advertisements. By using the free tier, you consent to the display of advertising.

6. CantoMate Pro — Premium Subscription & Purchases

6.1 Available Plans

Prices shown are indicative. Actual prices are set by the Apple App Store or Google Play in your local currency and may vary. All three plans unlock the same CantoMate Pro entitlement, which removes all advertisements and enables unlimited AI Chat access and offline content access.

6.2 Auto-Renewal (Monthly & Yearly Subscriptions)

Monthly and Yearly subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Your Apple ID or Google account will be charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Subscription management is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play. To cancel, please follow the instructions below:

Cancelling a subscription does not result in a refund for the current billing period. You will retain Pro access until the end of the paid period.

6.3 Lifetime Purchase

CantoMate Pro Lifetime is a one-time, non-subscription in-app purchase. Once purchased, you retain Pro access permanently on your account. The Lifetime purchase is non-refundable except as required by Apple App Store or Google Play refund policies.

6.4 Free Trials

We may offer free trial periods for subscription plans from time to time. If offered, the trial period and billing terms will be clearly displayed in the App. Unused portions of a free trial are forfeited upon purchase of a paid subscription.

6.5 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will notify existing subscribers in advance. Your subscription will continue at the original price until the next renewal cycle after the change takes effect.

6.6 Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refund requests are subject to the refund policies of the respective platform. We do not directly process refunds. To request a refund, please contact:

The AI Chat feature ("Ah Ming") is powered by Google Gemini AI via Firebase AI Logic. By using the AI Chat feature, you acknowledge and agree that:

You agree to use the App in a lawful and respectful manner. You must not:

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including all content, design, code, graphics, vocabulary data, and branding ("Content"), is owned by or licensed to CantoMate and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works of any Content without our prior written consent. Your use of the App does not grant you any ownership rights in the Content.

Vocabulary data and cultural content have been curated for educational purposes. Jyutping romanisation follows the LSHK standard.

10. Third-Party Services

The App integrates third-party services including Firebase (Google), RevenueCat, Google AdMob, and Gemini AI. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party service providers.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL CANTOMATE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM:

Our total liability to you for all claims shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or HK$100, whichever is greater.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CantoMate and its affiliates, officers, and employees from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account or access to the App at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law.

You may stop using the App at any time. If you have an active paid subscription, cancellation must be done through your App Store or Google Play account to stop future billing (see Section 6.2).

Upon termination, all licences granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease.

15. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the App shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong. You agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally by contacting us at support@cantomate.com before initiating any legal proceedings.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.

17. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CantoMate regarding your use of the App, and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
